2017 Miss THSRA Contestants

There are nine awesome cowgirls vying for the title of Miss THSRA 2017. The will compete in modeling, prepared speech, interviews, horsemanship and a written test over the NHSRA rule book. A panel of six judges will score the ladies in each of 7 different categories, with the test score being their 8th score. The panel of judges are: Mrs. Amy Duvall of Henryetta, OK; Mr. Kent Sturman of Colorado Springs, CO; Miss Jesse Budd of Weatherford, TX; Mrs. Gala Nettles of Madisonville, TX; Mrs. Sabrina Rust of Millsap, TX; and Mr. Kelly Baxley of Carrollton, TX. They are an extremely qualified panel of judges that we are honored to have. Now let’s meet these beautiful cowgirls!

From Region 1 is Miss Snow Lopez of Dalhart. Snow competes in Barrels, Poles, Goat Tying and the Queen contest.

Region 2 is Miss Paydon Gayle Hooper of Andrews. Paydon competes in Barrels, Poles, Goat Tying, Girls Cutting, Reigned Cow Horse and Queen Contest.

Region 3 is Miss Calli Schmutz of Stephenville. Callie compete is Barrels, Ribbon Roping and Break-away and the Queen contest.

Region 4 is Miss Emily Ellis of Athens. Emily competes in Barrels, Poles, Break-away and Queen Contest.

Region 5 is Miss Callie Harville of Lufkin. Callie competes in Barrels, Poles and Queen Contest.

Region 8 is Miss Annika Aasbo of Asherton. Annika competes in Barrels, Poles, Goat Tying and Queen Contest.

Region 9 has two contestants: Miss Kyra Lewis of Cleveland. Kyra competes in Barrels, Poles and Queen Contest. Miss Abbie Suggs of Buna. Abbie competes in Barrels, Poles and Queen Contest. Region 10 is Miss Dalena Tomlinson of Comanche. “DD” competes in Barrels, Poles and Queen Contest.

The contest will begin on Friday night, June 2 with the Introductions, Impromptu Questions, Modeling and Speech competition. This will be held at the Big Country Hall. There will be a Steak/Chicken dinner that night. Tickets must be purchased by May 1st. Contact Ann Blackwell at 936-590-1855 or email at tablackwell@yahoo.com for dinner ticket information. We will also be honoring past Miss THSRA/NHSRA queens that night. The Horsemanship competition will begin at 8:00am Saturday morning with the Horsemanship question portion immediately following in the Big Country Hall. The Interviews will be held Saturday afternoon, but are not open to the public. The ladies will be auctioning off amazing baskets that they have put together from their regions on Saturday night at the Director/ Sponsor dinner. The coronation of Miss THSRA 2017 and awards will be held prior to the Mandatory Student Meeting in the coliseum at approximately 2:30 Sunday afternoon on June 4.

Each contestant is also selling raffle tickets for a chance to win one of 3 Yeti Coolers – a 20qt Roadie; a 35Qt Tundra and a 50Qt Tundra Compact. But a bonus$250 CASH will be in one of the coolers! Tickets are going fast, so don’t wait. Ask your Region contestant for some tickets now. They are $5 each or 6/$25. Not bad considering you get 3 chances from 1 ticket.
